StudyEcho (“we”, “us”, or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights when using the StudyEcho iOS app.
1. Study Content and Reflections
When you use StudyEcho to track your learning and reflect on study sessions:

Voice Recordings: Your voice reflections are processed entirely on your device. Voice audio never leaves your device and is not stored or transmitted to our servers.

Study Reflections: The text from your reflections (transcribed or typed) is sent to Anthropic Claude, our AI provider, for analysis via AIProxy. This helps to cleanup transciption, generate summaries, identify key topics, and suggest follow-up study sessions.

Study Sessions: Your study session data (e.g. session duration, title, transcribed/typed text, summaries, …etc) is stored on your device and synced to your personal iCloud account. We do not have access to your iCloud data.

User Profile: Information such as your preferred name is stored on your device.
2. Usage Analytics
We collect anonymous data to understand how the app is used and improve the experience:
- App launches and feature usage
- Study session events and duration
- User preferences
- In-app interactions
No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics.
3. Crash Reports
We collect crash reports and error data to identify and fix bugs:
- Crash reports and error logs
- Device type and operating system version
- App version information
This data does not include personally identifiable information.
- Your subscription is managed through RevenueCat and Apple’s App Store
- Your payment information is handled entirely by Apple
- We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment details
What We Don’t Collect
- No account registration or login required
- We do not collect emails, phone numbers, or contact information
- We do not collect voice recordings (processed on-device only)
- We do not access or store your iCloud data
- We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties
How Your Data Is Used
We use your data to:
- Transcribe voice reflections into text (on your device only)
- Analyze reflections to generate summaries and study plans
- Sync your study data across your devices via iCloud
- Send local notifications for study and reflection reminders
- Monitor app performance and fix bugs
- Improve the app based on anonymous usage patterns
Data Storage
- On Your Device: All study sessions, reflections, and preferences are stored locally on your device
- iCloud Sync: Your study data automatically syncs across your Apple devices using your personal iCloud account
- Our Servers: We do not store your study content on our servers
You can disable iCloud sync in your device Settings > iCloud > StudyEcho.
Data Retention
- Study Data: Stored on your device and iCloud until you delete the app or manually delete sessions
- Voice Audio: Never stored (processed in real-time and discarded immediately)
- AI Processing: Reflection text sent to Anthropic Claude is subject to their data retention policies
- Analytics Data: Stored anonymously by PostHog under their retention policies
- Crash Data: Stored by Sentry according to their retention policies
Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party services to provide app functionality:
- Anthropic Claude (via https://www.aiproxy.com): AI service that analyzes your reflection text to generate summaries and study suggestions
- PostHog: Analytics platform that helps us understand app usage and improve features
- Sentry: Error monitoring service that helps us identify and fix bugs
- RevenueCat: Subscription management service
- Apple Services: iCloud sync, payment processing, and local notifications
All data transmitted to third-party services is encrypted and handled securely.
Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data:
- All network communications use encryption
- Voice processing happens entirely on your device
- iCloud sync is encrypted and controlled by Apple
- Your data is protected by iOS security features
Your Rights
Access and Control
- All your study data is accessible within the app
- You can manage your iCloud sync settings
Data Deletion
To completely delete your data:
- Delete study sessions within the app
- Uninstall StudyEcho from all your devices
- Delete StudyEcho data from iCloud (Settings > iCloud > Manage Storage > StudyEcho)
Subscription Management
- Manage or cancel subscriptions in App Store settings
- Contact Apple Support for refund requests
- Contact us for subscription questions
Notifications
StudyEcho sends local notifications for study and reflection reminders. These are scheduled on your device and do not involve server communication. You can disable notifications in iOS Settings > Notifications > StudyEcho.
Age Requirements
You must be at least 13 years old to use StudyEcho. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We’ll notify you of changes within the app or on our website. Continued use after updates means you accept the new policy.
